The incident occurred when Deepak tried to steal phones from the house of one Rajveer in Kala enclave. On his entry, the family members woke up and raised alert. "The neighbours came to the rescue and brutally thrashed the culprit resulting in his on the spot death," police said.

A complaint was filed by Rajveer in the matter. Before entering Rajveer's house, Deepak had also stolen a mobile phone from a neighbouring house, they said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Atul Yadav said that in his complaint Omprakash father of the deceased, has alleged that Rajveer, Harendra and his wife Jogendri had snatched Rs nine thousand from his son Deepak and later he was beaten to death by them.

Omprakash said that his son worked as mason and had gone out in search of labourers in the morning.

The cross FIR has been registered at Khoda police station and a probe has been launched, the police officer said.
