A 12-feet tall statue of Tamil saint poet Thiruvalluvar, is all set to be installed on the banks of river Ganga in Haridwar later this month.

The initiative for this was taken by BJP MP Tarun Vijay, known for his penchant for Tamil.

Speaking to reporters here today, Vijay said he will launch a rally from Kanyakumari on June 18 in connection with this initiative. The statue will leave for Haridwar from here by train.

The statue was sculpted by a fifth generation sculptor at Namakkal, L M P Kumaresan, who said that his team of seven members worked round the clock and completed it in 20 days.

The statue was moved to Chennai from Namakkal yesterday and will proceed on its onward journey to Haridwar where it will be erected on June 26 on the banks of river Ganga.

Vijay had been promoting Tirukkural, a classic Tamil sangam literature comprising 1,330 couplets or Kurals authored by Thiruvalluvar.
