Thoppil Bhasi award for Puthussery

Noted poet and linguist Puthussery Ramachandran has been selected for the 'Thoppil Bhasi Award' in recognition of his contribution in the field of literature.

The award carrying Rs 33,333 and a plaque would be presented to Ramachandran by governor P Sathasivam at a function here on December 8, CPI leader and Thoppil Bhasi Foundation Chairman Panniyan Raveendran told reporters here.

A veteran of Dravidian linguistics, Ramachandran is one of the state's literary personalities who has taken up social issues through their writings.

He has translated several poems from English, Sanskrit, Tamil and other foreign languages to Malayalam.

The award was instituted by the Thoppil Bhasi foundation in memory of the late playwright, screenwriter, and film director, Thoppil Bhasi.
 

The awards were given to personalities in the fields of drama, cinema, journalism and literature where Bhasi had proved his talent.
