Thousands throng Infant Jesus Church for annual feast

Thousands of devotees from various parts of the country today thronged the famous Infant Jesus Church, situated in Upnagar area on the Nashik-Pune Highway.

The devotees are gathering for the annual two-day feast held in February, which is marked by prayers and the mass, which is held in many languages, among other celebrations, church authorities said.

The shrine is dedicated to the infant Jesus Christ, and houses a beautiful idol of him, they said, adding this idol is said to the only other of its kind, apart from the one in Yugoslavia.

Stalls selling various items have been erected on the roadsides, and saw bustling crowds of customers.
 

The city police have diverted vehicular traffic near the shrine for two days, an official from Upnagar police station said.
