Thousands to visit Tripursundri shrine on 'Jyeshta Ashtami'

The temple bells of famous shrine of Tripursundri in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir will toll on June 6, the occasion of "Jyeshta Ashtami", as over 3000 Kashmiri Pandits are expected to converge the shrine.

"Over 3000 KPs are expected to throng the shrine of Tripursundri in Devsar tehsil of Kulgam district on June 6 on "Jyeshta Ashtami", Tripursundri Sanstha-Khanabarni president T K Dhar told reporters here today.

The famous Vaishnavite temple, located in the dense forests, had been abandoned after the community migrated from the Valley following the advent of militancy in 1989.

It was unanimously decided that, as usual, this year too the, managing committee of the sanstha will organise a Varshik Yagya (annual hawan) at Mata Tripur Sundri Asthapan, Khanabarni-Devsar-Kulgam (Kashmir) for the welfare of mankind, falling on June 6, he said.
 

Some prominent saints from outside the State are expected to attend the Maha-Yagna at Tripur Sundri Asthapan, he said.

The Relief Commissioner, relief organisation, Jammu and concerned Deputy Commissioner, Kulgam will be approached for making necessary transport, water supply, electricity and security arrangement respectively.

The Tripursundari shrine, dedicated to the Rogyana- Bhagwati deity, is one of three Vaishnavite shrines in the Valley. The other two shrines are in Tulmula and Manzgam in south Kashmir.
