students were today rescued from a train at Rangiya station, a few hours after they were allegedly kidnapped from Barpeta district of lower Assam, police said.

The three students of a residential school for the impoverished people at Bhawanipur in Barpeta had left their institution early this morning.

The three, students of Class Four, Class One and pre-primary class respectively, claimed that they were later forcefully pulled into a car by a groups of miscreants.

The kidnappers later took them to the Barpeta Road railway station where the kids were made to board the Varanai-Guwahati Express. One member of the gang accompanied the kids.

Some passengers in the train compartment grew suspicious about the gang member and raised an alarm when the train stopped at Rangia station.

Police and GRP personnel boarded the train and rescued the three students, even as the kidnapper accompanying them managed to escape during the melee.

Police suspect the kids were abducted by a syndicate involved in the kidnapping of children.
