The city police arrested three people today including the husband of a woman who committed suicide along with her two daughters at Madhuranagar here on Tuesday, for allegedly abetting their suicides.

Akula Archana, allegedly poisoned her two daughters and then committed suicide, in what appears to be a case of dowry harassment, the police said.

Fourth Town police station house officer P V V Narasimha Rao said Archana was married to one Satish Kalyan Chakravarthi in 2011, who works in a private construction company and lives with his mother and brother's family in a three-bedroom apartment.

Allegedly harassment for more dowry began after a few months of marriage and it increased after the second daughter was born three months ago, the police official said.

"The deceased returned to her in-laws' place just about a week ago with her three-month-old baby from her maternal home. They blamed her for the birth of the second daughter and mentally tortured her to such an extent that she took such an extreme step," the police official said.

Satish Kalyan, his brother and his mother have been arrested for alleged abetment of suicide under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code.
