Three persons have been arrested for allegedly trying to extort money from a businessmen in Gandhi Nagar area of East Delhi, police said today.
The accused have been identified as Munna (45), a resident of Krishna Nagar, Niyazu (58) and Yamin (27) both hailing from district Unnau in Uttar Pradesh.
A businessman of Gandhi Nagar Market had lodged a complaint saying that on October 13, Yamin who was a rickshaw puller and transported goods from his shop at Janta Gali for the last 6-7 months came to his shop and handed over a white colour envelope to him which contained a demand and threat letter. He approached police for help.

During the course of investigation, complainant produced rickshaw puller Yamin to Police.
"During detailed interrogation, Yamin disclosed that Niyazu had handed over the envelope to him to deliver the same to the complainant and promised to reward him (Yamin) with Rs 1 lakh.
"Niyazu was arrested. He revealed that he works in the factory of Munna, who had pitched the idea of threatening his garment owner, the complainant, who he said has lot of money and property, and is capable of paying Rs 5 crore easily. Munna said that the money will be distributed between them.
"Munna also produced a sample letter for extortion to Niyazu and asked him to get the same content written by someone else. Niyazu went to his village and got the letter written by someone. He then asked Yamin to deliver the letter to the complainant. Munna was arrested and during sustained interrogation he admitted to the crime," said a senior police official.
