Three persons, including a dismissed constable, were today arrested for impersonating as police officers and cheating people of their money.
Acting on a tip-off, police arrested the trio from Jhakarkati bus stand here and seized Rs 4 lakh in cash and 270 fake gold coins from their possesion.
Arvind Srivastav, Hargovind Joshi and Gyanendra Pratap were members of a gang which would cheat travellers at railway stations and bus stands by posing as policemen and selling them fake gold coins, Police SSP Shalabh Mathur said.
Srivastav, the gang's leader, was a former police constable who had been dismissed in 1987. Two other members, Prem Sagar and Pappu Pandit, are still absconding, the SSP said.
