Three arrested for diverting PDS wheat to flour mill

Police today arrested three persons including an owner of a flour mill and seized one quintal wheat, meant to be supplied through ration depots, being sold at cheap rate.

Acting on a tip-off, a check was conducted at Bhullarai Chowk on Phagwara-Hoshiarpur Road, where two vehicles were impounded and the trio arrested, police said.

The arrested persons were identified as Satpal Arora of Phagwara, owner of Kalucha Flour Mill at Khurampur, Ved Parkash of Goraya and Jaspal Singh alias Jassa of Kahna Dhesian village, both drivers of two mini-trucks in which the wheat was being carried, they said, adding that as many as 200 bags containing 100 quintal wheat were loaded in the vehicles.
 

The arrest was made under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC, they said.

"The wheat was meant for co-operative societies in Kahna Dhesian village in Goraya and was to be supplied at subsidised rates to the poor," police said.
