Three arrested for running fake vehicle registrations racket

Sanjay Chauhan, Amarjit alias Kala and Manoj Babi were arrested and cash worth Rs 50,000, seven fake registration certificates of new vehicles, one pistol and 17 ATM cards were recovered from their possession, DSP Paramjit Singh said.

The modus operandi of the gang, which consisted of eight members including the three accused, was to finance new cars from financial institutions on fake identities in Delhi and after registration, lodge false cases of theft of vehicles, the DSP said.

They then sold these vehicles in Punjab after making fake registration of these vehicles, he said.

During preliminary interrogation, the trio confessed to selling about 25 vehicles on fake identities in Kapurthala, Jalandhar and nearby places, he said.

 

The five remaining gang members would be nabbed soon, he said, adding, a case under various sections of the IPC and Arms Act has been registered against the trio.
