Metropolitan Magistrate Aditi Garg remanded Ravi Bhola and Manjeet Singh, both footwear retailers, whom were found in possession of hundreds of pairs of slippers bearing false trademark of PUMA and its logo, a jumping cat, registered in India.

The court, however, released a Karol Bagh-based footwear shop owner Karan Chopra, arrested for allegedly selling fake Puma shoes, on bail on a personal bond of Rs 30,000 with a surety of like amount.

The arrests were made following a complaint by a representative of PUMA, a multinational company engaged in manufacturing, selling and distributing sportswear, shoes, apparel and accessories across the world.

The representative alleged that it has come across certain unscrupulous persons who were manufacturing and selling deceptively identical products with its trademark and logo.

On PUMA's complaint, the Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi Police registered a case for violation of the Trade Marks and Copyright Act.

On July 26, on specific information that two shopkeepers -- Ravi and Karan were selling products with its trademark, a raid was conducted and 260 pairs of slippers bearing its logo, were seized. Ravi and Karan were arrested on the spot.

Subsequently, another search led to the recovery of 525 pair of slippers with the company's logo.

On Karan's disclosures, another raid was conducted at a shop run by one Manjeet Singh and 702 pair of footwear with false PUMA trademark and logo were seized.

Ravi disclosed that the footwears bearing the complainant company's logo were being provided from one Paji who was running a factory in Madi Pur here and that he can help the police nab him.

Manjeet also disclosed about another person who, he said, had a factory and a godown at Mangolpuri where the footwears were being made and stored.
