Three arrested in daylight robbery case

Three persons were arrested today for their alleged involvement in the loot of around Rs 10.75 lakh from the manager of a potato trader in Bada Bazara area in the town in December last year.

The arrested persons were identified as Siba Shankar Mohanty (28) of Krishnama Peta Street, claiming to be working in a local press as a marketing agent, Amit Kumar Das (25) of Balipada village near the town and Bala Krushna Sahu (24) of New Kalu Patra Street, police said.

At least six persons were involved in the loot from Jagan Kumar Sahu at Sandha Mohanty Street on December 24 last, they said adding efforts are on to nab the rest.
 

Around Rs 1.65 lakh cash, two motorcycles, four mobile phones, a gold ring and the weapon used in the ancient were seized from the accused persons, said sub divisional police officer, Berhampur, Thakur Prasad Patra.

Police have been drawing flack for delay in the breakthrough in the sensitive daylight loot case from the crowded market area.

At least six persons had allegedly snatched the bag containing the cash from Sahu at gun point, after attacking his driver Bhima Behera. Sahu was going to deposit the cash to the bank when the miscreants struck, police said.

"We have identified the other accused persons. Search is on to nab them," the SDPO said.
