Three arrested in lawyer murder case, strike continues

Three persons have been arrested in connection with the killing of a 30-year-old lawyer, even as local Bar Association members continued their strike for the second day today.

After Prashant Dwivedi was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Macrobert Ganj area of the city on April 23, lawyers have stalled work in local court here and sat on a dharna.

Lawyers are sitting on an indefinite fast and it will continue till an assurance for the compensation will be given by the state government, Young Lawyers Association Chairman Ratan Aggarwal said.

They are demanding Rs 20 lakh as compensation for the family of the deceased.
 

Meanwhile, three arrests have been made in the case.

Prashant's brother Shyam lodged a complaint against five persons at the Gwaltoli police station here and three have been arrested, police said.

A case has been registered against them under various section of the IPC, they said.

This is the third case in the past one year of killing of young lawyer, Aggarwal said.

According to Kanpur SSP Yashaswi Yadav, the police is working on the case and soon it will be resolved.

All legal proceedings in the court has come to a standstill and new dates have been alloted to the cases.
