Three arrested in mobile phone stealing case

Several mobile phones were recovered following the arrest of three persons, while costly mobile phones of a branded company were stolen in two separate incidents in East and West Singhbhum district, the police today said.

A group of around five youths broke open the central lock as well as three other locks of a mobile showroom at Dimna Road under Mango police station area here and stole mobile phone sets worth around Rs 17 lakh and also took Rs 1.50 lakh in cash in the wee hours of today, the police said.

Showroom owner Ashutosh Kumar Bajpai said he was informed about the burglary by local residents in the morning.
 

Officer-in-charge of Mango police station, Laxman Prasad, who rushed to the spot, said details were being gathered before lodging an FIR in this regard.

Meanwhile, three persons were arrested and 34 mobile phones, stolen from a showroom in Karaikela in West Singhbhum district in the last week of May, recovered from their possession, said Superintendent of Police, Michael Raj S.

The SP told reporters the arrested persons included the kingpin Paras Verma alias Laloo, a resident of Deoria in Uttar Pradesh, but living in Rourkela, Odisha.

Verma and his accomplice Shamsul alias Pila Babu, a resident of Rourkela were arrested from Rourkela, while Md Numan Ali, a resident of Chakradharpur in West Singhbhum was arrested from Chakradharpur yesterday, he said.

Two stolen watches were also recovered from their possession.

The SP said Verma, who was released from jail last year after serving a 14-year jail term in connection with a criminal case, used to steal scrap from a steel plant in Rourkela before he started stealing mobile phones.
