Three persons were arrested and 35 kg poppy husk was seized from their possession by BSF jawans near the Indo-Pak border in Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan.

The accused, identified as Harendra Singh, Mangat Singh and Paramjeet Singh hailing from Punjab were arrested last night and 5 motorcycles with no registration numbers, 4 mobile phones and 6 SIM cards were recovered from them, a BSF official said.

"We had received a tip-off that some persons were in possession of poppy husk near the border," the official said.

"Followed by this tip-off we issued an alert and acting swiftly on the information found some persons with their motorcycles in suspicious condition hardly 1 km away from the International border at about 9.00 PM," he added.

The accused were in possession of 18 packets of poppy husk and 330 more packets were found hidden in the seats of the motorcycles.

"Total 348 packets weighing 35 kg were seized from them," the official said, adding that such activities have shot up in the region in the recent past after we have stepped up surveillance.

After a preliminary investigation, the men were handed over to the local police for further investigation.
