Three persons were beaten to death by a mob here on Friday which caught hold of them while they were trying to kidnap an 11-year-old girl from inside her school, police said.
According to Superintendent of Police, Begusarai, Aditya Kumar, the incident took place in Narayanipur village under Chhaudahi outpost where the armed criminals barged into a primary school and tried to drag out 11-year-old Nageena Kumari, daughter of a local resident Ramnath Paswan.
Teachers of the school put up a resistance following which the miscreants threatened to open fire, the SP said adding that other school children ran out in the mean time and raised an alarm.
A number of villagers reached the spot upon which the trio panicked and started firing but ran out of ammunition, the SP said adding that the crowd - armed with sticks, bricks and stones - pounced upon the criminals and thrashed them severely.
By the time a police party reached the spot, Mukesh Mahto - a notorious criminal of the area - had succumbed to injuries while his two accomplices Shyam Singh and Heera Singh died on way to a hospital, the SP said.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem while an FIR has been lodged in connection with the incident and those found guilty of taking the law into their own hands will be arrested, the SP added.
