Three brothers killed over rivalry; two detained

In a gruesome incident, three brothers were brutally killed allegedly by a gang of criminals in full public view at Bhande Plot area here, police said today.

The incident took place last night when the victims, identified as Eknath Ugle (35) Sanjay (32) and Keshav (30) were attacked by a criminal gang with swords and other sharp weapons while returning home after attending a ceremony , they said.

According to the police, three brothers, one of them Eknath had a past criminal record and was earlier booked by police, picked up a quarrel with members of the gang during a ceremony at a nearby place earlier in the evening.
 

Both Eknath and Sanjay died on the spot while Keshav succumbed to his injuries in the Government Medical College Hospital here, police said adding that two were rounded up by police during preliminary investigation.

One of the deceased, Eknath was a known criminal and was earlier booked by police under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCCOCA) in 2003, police said.
