Three burnt alive as vehicle catches fire

At least three persons were today burnt alive as the car in which they were travelling caught fire following a collision with a truck on the outskirts of the state capital, police said.

The incident took place in the wee hours near Malipada square, they said.

The victims hailed from Ganjam district and were returning home after attending a marriage function.

The deceased, all aged above 50 years, have been identified as Samir Das, Himanshu Panigrahi and Dilip Rath, natives of Nilakantha Nagar in Bijipur area of Brahmapur town, police said.

All of them worked as assistant engineers in the Irrigation department.
 

The bodies were sent for post-mortem at the district headquarters hospital at Khurda, police said.
