Three persons, who were caught in connection with cell phone theft cases, escaped from Ghatkesar Police Station here in the wee hours of today, police said.

The incident occurred at around 2.30 AM when the three managed to give a slip to the police and escaped from the police station when a constable had taken another accused to a toilet outside the station, a senior police officer said.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Malkajgiri Zone) Ramesh Naidu, acting on a tip-off, a police team had last night intercepted one auto-rickshaw and caught five persons in connection with cell phone theft cases.

"The five cell phone offenders were brought to the station and were being questioned to find out if they were involved in other offences apart from cell phone thefts. Two of them were arrested while the remaining three were to be placed under arrest after the investigation today," the DCP told PTI.

Initially, the three, all locals, were taken to the toilet by the constable and brought back to the police station and when the constable took another arrested accused to the toilet, the three managed to escape from the station, Naidu said adding a hunt has been launched to nab them.
