Police today nabbed three alleged chain snatchers by disguising a woman constable as a potential target wearing plain clothes and a gold chain.

The accused have been identified as Ranjeet Singh, Jaswinder Singh, the two alleged snatchers and one Harish Chand, who is a jeweller by profession and used to buy stolen jewellery from the two.

Police have recovered one motorcycle and five stolen gold chains from their possession.

With the arrest of the trio, police claims to have busted a gang of chain snatchers in Karol bagh, thereby solving 12 reported cases of chain snatching in Central and East Delhi, in the recent months.

"On the evening of June 6, we laid a trap near Jassa Ram Hospital during which all the team members were disguised in civil clothes. A woman constable named Pooja wearing a gold chain visible around her neck, posed as a local looking for bus," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Parmaditya.

Soon two bikers reached the spot and were looking for an opportunity to strike. Sensing their intention, when police signalled them to stop, they tried to flee but were instantly overpowered, he added.

During interrogation, they revealed that they were arrested in similar cases in the past as well. A string of incidences of chain snatching have been reported in areas including Karol Bagh, Rajinder Nagar, Prasad Nagar.
