Three children drown in rainwater pit in Gujarat

Three children, two of them girls, of a family drowned in a pit filled with rainwater in a village near here in Gujarat today, police said.

"Three children of a family were found dead in a rainwater pit in Chela village," said Sub-Inspector N M Sarvaiya of Jamanagar Taluka Police Station.

The deceased were identified as Atul (7), Pinuben (5) and Surikaben (8) whose parents are labourers, said police.

The children went missing early this morning following which the family filed a police complaint.

"On suspicion of villagers that the kids may have drowned in a rainwater pit near the village, police called fire brigade personnel who pulled out the bodies," Sarvaiya said.
 

Police registered a case of accidental death and sent the bodies for post-mortom.
