Passengers of the Hazrat Nizamuddin-Ernakulam Mangala Express train had a narrow escape after three coaches of the train derailed near Pen station in the neighbouring Raigad district this evening, an official said.
"Three coaches-- S-9, S-10 and pantry car-- of 12617 Ernakulam-Hazrat Nizamuddin Mangala Express derailed at Pen railway station (130 km from Mumbai) at about 6pm today. However, luckily none of the passengers were hurt in the incident," a Central Railway official said.
"A breakdown train which was at Pen railway station was immediately pressed in to service for restoration operations," the official said adding that rail traffic was being diverted via loop line at Pen railway station.

The railway authorities are trying to find out the cause of the derailment.
