Three police constables were today arrested on charges of attempting to extort money from a cottage owner here after accusing him of running a prostitution racket.

Police said Siddiq Rahman and Manikandan, attached to the Armed Reserve, and Krishnan of Tamil Nadu Special Youth Police, last night threatened the cottage owner of serious action and took away his ATM and credit cards and sought huge sum of money in return.

As the incident was reported to the Town police station, the cottage owner was asked to call the constables near Ayyappa Temple for handing over money to them, police said.

The constables reached the place, but took to their heels when they noticed police personnel. However, they were chased and nabbed in the wee hours, police said.

After preliminary investigation, the three were arrested and remanded to custody, police added.
