Three-day carnival of art, films in Guwahati

The main highlights of 'Metropolis: Guwahati Urban Winter Festival 2013' will be live installation of arts and crafts, painting exhibition by promising artist-cum-chief coordinator of the event Ranjan Engti and other artists of the region, stunts of extreme sports, live performance by nine folk rock bands, fashion shows, a northeast cartoon congress and literary workshops.

Another exclusive event of Metropolis is workshops on script writing and filmmaking by eminent Bollywood directors Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar, Dibakar Banarjee and Reema Kagti.

"We wanted to bring together people interested in any art form. During the festival, creative people will get a great chance to showcase their talents," says Engti, the brain behind the event.

 

A global film fest called "USA: Cultures of Resistance" will show documentary movies on world politics of conflict.

A two-hour long documentary "Cultures of Resistance" and a very recent film on Syrian crisis titled "The Suffering Grasses" will be screened for the first time in India.

Also, regional short films made by upcoming filmmakers of the northeast will be showcased at the festival.

"We go to Delhi, we go to Bangalore, we go to Mumbai. But there is no bigger joy than coming back to our own metropolis Guwahati. This is what excites us the most, the home coming and seeing this metropolis grow," says Engti.

According to him, 'Metropolis: Guwahati Urban Winter Festival 2013' is "our answer to the world".

The festival will also be an opportunity for tourists to experience a taste of tribal culture of the northeast. There will be something for the kids too
