Three persons died after the car they were travelling in was crushed by a speeding dumper in south Delhi's Munirka area, police said today.

The deceased were identified as Rajeev Suri, Rupesh Mehta and Bablu, all residents of Govindpuri.

Suri, who was driving the car, owns a flex printing business in Kalkaji, and was returning from Vasant Kunj with his associates when the incident took place last night, said a police official.

The overloaded dumper truck was returning from a construction site in Chirag Delhi and its driver lost control while taking a sharp turn near the mouth of the flyover at Munirka and crushed Suri's car under it, the official said.

The truck driver and his helper fled the spot after the incident and passers-by called up the police. They were pulled out from the car using a cutter.

They were rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre where they were declared brought dead. The bodies were later sent for a post-mortem examination, said the official.

"A case of causing death due to negligence was registered at Safdarjung Enclave police station and a search has been initiated to apprehend him," said a senior official, adding that the dumper has a Haryana registration number and the owner is being questioned.
