Three alleged drug peddlers were arrested Saturday after recovery of poppy straw and heroin from them in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.
Truck driver Hardeep Singh and his associate Rakesh Kumar, both residents of Punjab, were arrested after police recovered three kilograms of poppy straw from their vehicle at Balole near Bari Brahmana along the Jammu-Pathankot highway, a police spokesman said.
He said the truck was intercepted on way to Punjab at a police check point after which the contraband was recovered.
Another accused, Sourav Sharma, a resident of Ghagwal village of Samba, was arrested during frisking at Sandhi Morh, the spokesman said, adding 5.5 grams of heroin and seven grams of charas (a form of cannabis) were recovered from his possession.
The trio were booked under NDPS act, he said.
In a separate case, police arrested a bootlegger and recovered 21 bottles of illicit liquor from him at Border Road Samba.
The accused was identified as Raghubir Singh, a resident of Talgarh Rehian, police said, adding that a case was registered against him.
