Apparently frustrated over crop failure and worried over repayment of bank loan, three farmers of a family ended their lives in adjoining Buldana district, police said today.

Four members of a farmer's family consumed a poisonous substance last night at their home in Malthana village of Buldana district in western Vidarbha.

They were rushed to a hospital where three of them - Dinesh Snyansingh Masane (35), Laxmibai Dnyansingh Masane (40), Suresh Dnyansingh Masane (19) - died this morning, Khamgaon Additional S P Yeshwant Solanke told PTI.

The fourth member, Dnyansingh Sanu Masane, is battling for life.

The family members, all engaged in farming, were frustrated by crop failure and worried over repayment of bank loan of Rs 1 lakh-1.50 lakh, he said.

They own a four-acre land where they had cultivated soya beans, but a pest attack ruined the crop completely, the police officer said.

The family's other surviving member, Chhagan, had gone out of the village when the four consumed poison.
