A court in Thane has sentenced three persons to life imprisonment for killing a 32-year-old man five years ago.

In the order passed on Friday, district judge S B Bahalkar convicted Tushar Bansod (27), Raju Bame (31) and Bharadwaj alias Bala Londhe (31) and awarded the sentence.

The court also slapped a fine of Rs 15,000 of each one of them.

In her submission, public prosecutor Ujwala Moholkar told the court that on the night of November 8, 2013 the accused had assaulted three persons at Anand Nagar locality at Kopri in the city over some old enmity.

The victims were attacked with swords, bottles and knives, besides being punched and kicked, she said.

While Suresh alias Vikram Sumbe died in the attack, his two friends- Kisan Sunde and Mangesh- were left injured, she said.

In the order, the court noted that the prosecution has proved beyond reasonable doubt all the charges against the trio.

The accused were held guilty under sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting) and others. They were also held guilty under sections of the Arms Act.

Two other accused were acquitted for lack of evidence. Another accused had died during the trial.
