In a tragic incident, three Pakistani minor girls were burnt to death today when they were alone in their house which caught fire.

The three sisters - Khatija, Aliya and Noor - aged between 2 and 6 - were alone at their house when the fire broke out, Punjab Rescue spokesman Jam Sajjad told PTI.

The apparent cause of fire was short-circuit, he said.

"Their father was in his shop while the mother had gone to market to buy grocery after locking the main gate of the house," he said.

"On seeing the fire engulfing the house neighbours broke the gate and tried to extinguish it," Sajjad said.

The fire brigade and rescue teams reached the spot in the densely populated Ichhra area and shifted the three girls to the hospital where doctors pronounced Khatija and Aliya dead on arrival.

The two-year-old Noor also succumbed to her burns after a couple of hours.
