Three girls, all students of an Intermediate course in a local college, drowned in Krishna river in Krishna district, police said today.
"The mishap occurred last evening when the deceased, identified as Pujitha, Nagalakshmi and Pallavi, entered the river from Sitanagaram ghat side and were pulled away by strong currents of water, said Naresh Kumar, sub-inspector of Tadepalli police station here.
He said the deceased were residents of Tadigadapa and Kanuru villages in the district, and their bodies are handed over to their parents today.
