Three persons, including a minor girl, were arrested in two separate incidents at Sardar Vallabhbhai international airport here today for allegedly attempting to smuggle in 26 gold bars collectively worth over Rs 82 lakh.

"The trio had landed here from Dubai separately. They were arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle in 26 gold bars, weighing 3032.64 grams, priced at Rs 82,48,780," an official statement by the Customs department said.

While Mohamad Gouse Shingati (48) was held along with his 17-year-old daughter after they landed from a Emirates flight, a 24-year-old woman, identified as Mariyam Begum, was intercepted separately and gold bars seized from her.

The woman, who also landed from a Dubai flight, had concealed the gold bars underneath her cloths.

However, the statement did not mention the exact number of gold bars seized from each of the trio.
