Three men, including two ex-employees of a businessman, have been arrested for allegedly trying to extort Rs 60 lakh from him, the police said today.

Satbir (25), Rahul (28) and Raj Kapur (23), all hailing from Uttar Pradesh, were arrested from northwest Delhi's Haiderpur area yesterday following a tip off, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Aslam Khan said.

Eight police teams were formed in Delhi and the adjoining states to identify the culprits, he said.

The locations of the accused were traced through electronic surveillance and a trap was laid at Haiderpur's bus stop to arrest them, Khan added.

Satbir and Rahul are former employees of the complainant.

The duo allegedly threatened the complainant and his son and demanded Rs 60 lakh, the DCP said.

They needed money to repay loans and decided to extort it from their former employer, he said, adding that they had confessed to the crime.

Satbir told the police that he roped in his relative Raj and had promised to pay him Rs two lakh.

A country-made pistol with five live cartridges and five mobile phones used in the commission of crime were seized from the accused, Khan said.
