With the arrest of three persons from suburban Chembur area here, police claimed to have busted a gang allegedly involved in forging documents for getting Aadhar cards issued.

Interestingly, police stumbled upon the alleged racket when their Anti-Terror cell found that an Aadhar card provided by a man to procure a mobile SIM card was not genuine.

The cell verifies whether new mobile connections are given on genuine documents.

According to an officer, they found during one such check that an Aadhar card submitted by a man to a mobile service provider was suspicious.

The sleuths then approached the holder of the Aadhar card who turned out to be an employee of a barber shop.

The officer said that he got the Aadhar card by submitting an electricity bill of his landlord with whom he doesn't have a formal rental agreement.

Upon investigation, they found that the Adhaar card was issued to him by one Pandit Yadav who runs a paan shop.

According to the officer, Yadav allegedly used to forge ration cards by ripping off its first page and pasting fake names on it.

He also used to forge signature of rationing officer on the card.

One person, identified only as Chauhan, would assist Yadav, the officer said, adding that Yadav also used to forge other documents like PAN card.

The officer said the accused used to submit the forged documents at Aadhar office, where they were cleared without verification by one Solanki.

"We have recovered a diary from Yadav which has names, addresses and phone numbers of 500 to 600 people wanting Adhar card," he said, adding that the accused used to charge Rs 300 for the service.

Yadav, Chauhan and Solanki were booked on charges of forgery and cheating.
