Three held for hunting peacocks

Three persons were today arrested on charges of hunting 10 peacocks near here, officials said.

A forest partrol team, who was monitoring the Melseethai forest area, saw a gang hunting peacocks and nabbed three gangsters but three others managed to escape, Forest officer Ananthakumar said.

While three peacocks died of severe injuries, seven were rescued and were being treated at the local veterinary hospital. The gang had sold peacock flesh at Rs 800 a kg.

All the three accused have been remanded to judicial custody.
