Three persons were today arrested for allegedly running a racket selling laptops which were distributed free by the Uttar Pradesh government to Class 12 pass students under its ambitious scheme.

On a tip off, Phoolchandra, Anand and Munawwar were arrested and six laptops were recovered from them, SP Piyush Srivastava said, adding that the kingpin of the gang is a clerk in school.

The police is probing how they would manage to obtain the laptops, which were distributed among students.

"We are probing whether they used to obtain the laptops from the students themselves, or registered fake names in the distribution list to get them," he said.
