Three held in Daman gangrape case

Three persons were today arrested in connection with the gangrape of a woman at Kachigam area here last month, police said.

"Three persons were arrested for raping a woman and looting jewellery and cash from her in a chawl in Kachigam area in Daman last month. The woman had lodged a complaint against six persons and three of them have been arrested," Superintendent of Police (Daman), Sameer Sharma said.

The arrested accused have been identified as Saban Gadak, Rames Gana Pawar and Naresh Janu Gadak.

The trio was arrested from Silvassa and Piproli villages, the officer said adding "the three accused are history- sheeters, who have been involved in petty robberies in the past."
 

"The six accused had come to Daman on motorcycles on the night of the incident. They forced the victim to open the door of her chawl, gangraped her after tying her up from the bed and robbed her jewellery and Rs 400 cash," Sharma said.

The arrested trio have been remanded in police custody till November 18 by a local court, police said.
