Three held in gangrape case in Odisha

A day after alleged gangrape and attempt to murder a tribal woman, police today arrested three persons even as the 27-year-old victim has been struggling for survival at the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack.

The three youths were engaged in liquor trade in the Banki locality of Cuttack district, police said.

The three accused were remanded to judicial custody.

The woman was abducted from her parents' vegetable farm to a nearby jungle by three youths who raped her there at Kuamada in Cuttack district yesterday. She was found in unconscious state with her hands and legs tied.

With several injury marks on her body, it was suspected that there was an attempt to kill her after rape, police said.
 

The incident triggered outrage in the area with local people blocked road demanding action against the culprits and free medical care and compensation for the victim besides a job for her.
