Three held with gold at Kolkata airport

Three persons were today detained at the NSC Bose International airport here for carrying gold allegedly without proper documents, customs officials said.

Two persons, identified as Mohammed Salim and Mohammed Shazil, landed from a Dubai flight and Hussain Suleiman coming from Bangkok were detained for carrying gold without any proper paper, they said.

Salim was carrying 526gm of gold concealed in his mobile battery while Shazil had 471.8gm of gold in his handbag, they said, adding Suleiman possessed 206g gold without proper document.

"We have detained three persons for illegally carrying gold... We are looking whether they have any connection with any smuggling racket or not," a senior customs official said.
 

Last week, two persons were detained at the city airport for illegally carrying gold worth Rs 30 lakh while another was arrested with 50,000 Euros.
