Three held with huge cache of arms in Delhi

A suspected illegal arms supplier and his two associates have been arrested with 26 sophisticated pistols, 19 magazines and 800 cartridges from New Usmanpur area of northeast Delhi, the police said today.

They said cash worth Rs one lakh and a Fortuner car, which was being used to transport the arms, were also seized.

Salim Ahmad (47), Naseem Ahmad (35) and Mohd Faizan (23), all residents of Jaffrabad in northeast Delhi, were arrested last evening on their way to Delhi from Sunauli border, Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Atul Kumar Thakur said.

During interrogation, Salim revealed that he was involved in criminal activities for over 20 years and had been supplying arms for the last 10 years, the DCP said.

 

Salim told the police that he was fond of carrying weapons and also received illegal arms for repair from various parts of western Uttar Pradesh, Thakur added.

According to the police, Salim would hide weapons in the stepney of his vehicle while travelling.

Salim already has eight criminal cases, including one of murder, registered against him, Thakur said.

He added that the other two accused, who are Salim's relatives, have no criminal records.
