Police today detained three persons with Rs 25.29 lakh in demonetised currency in Anand district of Gujarat.

Ranchhod Bharwad, Kanu Patel and Naresh Shah were held outside Iskcon temple in Vallabh Vidyanagar town as they were waiting for someone, police said.

"The trio came to the temple on a bike. When we searched a bag carried by them, we found old currency notes worth Rs 25,29,500," a police official said.

As the trio could not give satisfactory explanation about scrapped currency, police seized the cash and informed the Income Tax department, the official added.
