Three held with Rs one crore in scrapped notes

Police last night seized Rs one crore in scrapped currency notes from three persons here and detained them, an official said today.

Sleuths of Rajkot Special Operations Group (SOG) seized the bank notes in denominations of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 during a combing operation carried out at Mandvi main road area late last night, he said.

According to the officer, the police found the notes with the men who were riding a motorcycle in the area.

"Three persons were moving (on a bike) in a suspicious manner on Mavdi main road. When intercepted and searched, we found Rs one crore in scrapped notes in their possession. When they failed to produce valid documents, we detained them and informed Income Tax department," SOG police inspector K K Jala said.
 

The detained men have been identified as Dipak Nanda, Trilok Dave, and Suleman Bhatti, he said.

"The police are investigating the matter and interrogating the trio to find out the motive behind carrying such a huge amount in demonetised currencies," the officer said.
