Three including a woman killed in highway ambulance accident

At least three people died and three others were injured after an ambulance in which they travelling met with an accident on the Mumbai-Agra Highway near Sahapur on Sunday afternoon, a district rural police official said here today.

Police inspector M B Sakale of the Sahapur police station told PTI that the ambulance from Malegaon district was returning to the district after a visit to Bhiwandi in Thane district.

Enroute, the driver of the ambulance gave a lift to some people proceeding towards Malegaon, he said, adding that a little beyond Khardi, the ambulance rammed into a stationery tempo standing by the roadside.
 

During the accident, three people identified as Deepak Patil (22), Kavita Patil (40) and Abhay Kamble (29) died on the spot, he said.

He said that three other travellers in the ambulance who were injured, have been admitted to the local hospital at Sahapur.

The Sahapur police has registered an offence under Section 304A, Section 298, Section 337 and Section 338 of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act against the ambulance driver, he said, adding that no arrest has made so far in connection with the accident.
