Three injured in attack by elephant, bear

: Two women were seriously injured when an elephant attacked them at Thalawady forest range and another man attacked by a bear in the area, a forest department official said.

The two women, aged 55 and 50, had entered the forest area yesteday to collect firewood when they were attacked by the pachyderm, which ran away after they raised an alarm, Padma, Forest Officer at Hasaanure in Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve said in a press release.

In the second incident, a coolie entered the forest yesterday to collect leaves for broomsticks when the bear pounced on him and bit him. Hearing his cries for help, locals rushed to the spot, pelted stones and chased away the bear
 

The two women and the coolie have been hospitalised.
