Three killed, 29 injured as bus overturns in Ratnagiri

At least three persons, including a 10-year-old boy, died and 29 others injured after a luxury bus turned turtle at a village in Ratnagiri district in Konkan region early this morning, police said.

Two of the injured persons are in a critical state, police said.

The accident took place at Agave village under Savarde police station limits at 4.30 am, when the driver of the bus lost control over the vehicle. The bus was going to Malvan from Mumbai.

Umesh Sonawane (30), Laxman Shashikant Thukral (10) and Swapnali Shirke (45) died on the spot, police said adding that the injured, who included 16 women, were taken to a nearby private hospital. Jatin Sawant (9) and Kamlakar Patole (43) are in a critical condition and are being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU).
 

After the bus overturned, occupants of some other vehicles passing by alerted the state highway police about it following which a police team was rushed to the spot.

A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
