The mishap took place as the speeding truck lost control due to mechanical problems and barged into several shops located on the roadside.
While three died on the spot, three others sustained injuries.
The injured were admitted to Sadar hospital.
The incident sparked off protest by the local people who blocked Darbhanga-Samastipur road for several hours demanding compensation to the families of the victims.
