Three people were killed and four others injured today, while more than 20 houses were set on fire, after clashes erupted between two tribal groups over previous enmity in Khajuria village of Garbada taluka here, police said.

"Three people were killed and four others were injured this evening, after group clashes broke out in Garbada taluka's Khajuria village here," Dahod Superintendent of Police (SP) M A Chavda told PTI.

"More than 20 houses were set on fire in clashes that broke out between two groups over previous enmity," he said.

"More than ten people belonging to both the groups were detained by police," the SP said, adding that cross-complaints were lodged by both the groups.

The situation, Chavda said, has been brought under control.

An old enmity between the two groups over an affair involving two persons from the groups led to clashes in which stones were pelted at each other and houses set on fire.

The magnitude of the clashes was such that the police, the fire department and 108 ambulance services could not enter the village for close to an hour, as villagers were hiding in the hills and attacking each other.

After clashes subsided, police teams launched combing operations in the hills to bring the situation under control.
