Three killed as truck runs into people waiting at bus-stop

Three persons including a couple were killed on the spot and three others injured as a speeding truck ran into them at Vadalibhoi village in Chandwad taluka of the district today.

Police said the truck was heading to Chandvad from Nashik on the Mumbai-Agra national highway. The driver lost control and it knocked down six persons who were waiting for a bus at a stop at Maharishi, 25 km from here.

The deceased were identified as Dilip Gangurde, 50, his wife Ranjana Gangurde, 45, residents of Pimpalnare, and Bajirao Khanderao Thackery, 70. The injured were admitted in Chandwad hospital.

After the mishap, Vadalibhoi residents staged a blockade on the highway in protest.
 

Police officers rushed to the spot and removed the dead bodies. The protesters relented after one hour.

The truck driver has been arrested, police said.
