Three killed, five injured as truck rams into jeep

Three persons, including a minor, were killed and five others injured when a truck rammed into a stationary jeep near Metral village of Khedbrahma tehsil of Sabarkantha district today, police said.

The accident took place on a state highway connecting Ambaji in Banaskantha district and Khedbrahma when the jeep carrying passengers was hit by the truck, an official from Khedbrahma police station said.

Two persons died on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries on way to a hospital, police said adding that the deceased were identified as Shravan Khokhariya (15), Raman Raval (60) and Leelaben Patel (48).

"The jeep, which was on its way to Ambaji from Unchidamaal village, had stopped near Metral village when it was hit from behind by a truck coming in the same direction," police said.
 

Five others sustained severe injuries in the incident and they were taken to Khedbrahma civil hospital for treatment, police said.

The driver of the truck escaped from the spot and a search has been launched to trace him, the official said.
