Three killed in EMU train mishap in Chennai

Three commuters travelling on the footboard of an Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) train on the suburban Chenglepet-Beach route here were killed after they fell off, Southern Railway sources said.

The incident occurred this morning when the bag of one of the persons got caught in a signal post when the train was in motion, they said.

Under the impact, all three of them fell onto the track resulting in the death of two persons.

The third person died while being rushed to hospital, they added.

The accident took place between Pazhavanthangal and St Thomas Mount railway stations and the train was a 'Fast' service from Chenglepet to Madras Beach with limited stops.
 

Two others who suffered injuries are undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.
